As someone who travels a lot not having a portable gaming system is quite inconvenient which had me scrolling the google play store for a while in the hunt for a good single-player game to play on my android device and nothing quite intrigued me. As someone who grew up playing the N64 and 3DS, I would be more than happy to replay my favourite N64 games while travelling. In this guide, I will share how you can play N64 games on your android devices using the M64 plus emulator.

M64 plus allows you to play your favourite N64 titles on android devices stably and better than you would expect. The emulator is capable of running most games quite well
Additionally, M64 also supports controller connectivity, allowing you to connect an external controller to your android device via Bluetooth or wire and play your N64 games more comfortably.

- Download & Install the M64 plus FZ emulator from Google Playstore.
- Upon opening the app you will see a β+β sign on your screen click that and check the βscan for zip fileβ and βscan subdirectoriesβ boxes.
- Now browse to the folder where you have your N64 games saved on your android devices, you need to save them in a folder and allow M64 to access that folder.

M64 plus Display settings for optimal performance
Click on the 3 bars at the top-left of your screen, this will open the menu for you, from there head to the display settings.
The first thing you are going to change is your resolution, by default the resolution is set to 640Γ480 which is quite low. You can notch it up to 2160Γ1620 or match the resolution of your device for the best results.
Next, you can change the aspect ratio to 16:9, it may give you a warning but ignore it as most games will work just fine.
Controller settings for M64 plus β N64 emulator
By default, you can use on-screen controls to play your games and you can customize them by heading to settings and map the controls to your liking.
If you have a Bluetooth controller connected to your android phone the emulator will detect it automatically and remove the on-screen controls automatically. In order to map the controls or change the controller settings you can head to Profiles > Controller Profiles > NEW (Profile is located right below the Settings tab).
