RPSC3 โ€“ Playstation 3 emulatorโ€™s best settings and guide.

RPSC3 emulation over the years has become better and better as more and more games can now be played and even completed without many issues, which is certainly quite remarkable! Emulating on a PC can be quite taxing on the system and often lead to performance issues. Even though RPSC3 is incredibly well-optimized now, it still requires quite a decent system to get those desired frame rates. If your system has been struggling to run your favourite PS3 games, you are in the right place! Here we have listed the RPSC3 โ€“ Playstation 3 emulatorโ€™s best settings to optimize the emulatorโ€™s performance to its full potential for Low and High-end PC.

All these options and settings can be quite overwhelming when first booting up RPSC3. Here in this guide, we will go over all the options you need to enable and the ones you donโ€™t need to touch and just stay away from.

The Global Configuration settings for every game and device

These are the settings that you are going to apply no matter what game you are playing or what system you are using. These settings involve the CPU, GPU and emulator tab.

First, head to the emulator tab and check the box next to โ€˜Enable Performance Overlayโ€™ to keep track of your gameโ€™s performance. This presents you with a chart on your screen to give you a brief about how capable your PC is of running your favourite games.

Cpu Settings for all PCs

Next, head to the CPU tab and there check the โ€˜SPU loop detectionโ€™ box. Since the emulator is extremely CPU intensive and requires plenty of cores this is the only change you need to make in the CPU tab as it slightly reduces the CPU usage and improves performance, make sure the rest of the settings are left at their default values.

Leave the rest of the settings at default, in case you are facing some issues while playing a particular game feel free to troubleshoot and change the SPU decoder to โ€˜Recompiler(ASMJIT)โ€™.

Note: You need to restart the emulator for the changes to take effect.

Note: It is extremely important for you to have a capable CPU as RPSC3 is highly CPU dependent and requires at least 6 cores.

GPU Settings for Low-End PC

  • This is where we are going to dig deep and make changes in the settings based on the speed of your hardware. If you have a fairly low-end GPU with around 2-4 GB VRAM.
  • Set the Anisotropic filter to 2x or off.
  • Disable Anti-aliasing, if you find the performance to be stable you can try setting it to auto as it will improve the overall image quality.
  • Leave the default resolution at 1280ร—720. If you experience drops in performance you can try dropping the internal resolution to around 75%.
  • Keep the shader mode at Async(multi-thread).
  • Enable V-sync and โ€˜stretch to display areaโ€™.

GPU Settings for High-End PC

If you have a fairly capable GPU with at least 6-8 GB VRAM you can try the following settings

  • Set Anisotropic filtering to 8x.
  • Enable Anti Aliasing.
  • Set Internal resolution to either 200%(1440p) or 300%(4K)
  • If you have an i7 or i9 equivalent processor enable multithreaded Rsx.
  • If you have a strong GPU turn on Asynchronous texture streaming.

The game Patches (60 fps mod and more).

Rpsc3-supported games have game patches which may include performance mods, 60 fps mods and maybe even cheats. You may enable features that work for you and the ones that you prefer. Kingdom hearts for example has a 60 fps mod which allows the game to break through the 30 fps ceiling and give you a smooth 60 fps experience.

To open game patches you can right-click on the game or go to the manage section and access the game patches section through there.

Specific Game fixes

Some games work better at specific settings while others donโ€™t. To make changes to a game exclusively you can right-click on the game you want custom-specific settings for and open โ€˜change custom configurationโ€™. The changes made in this menu will be exclusive to the game while the settings for other games will remain unchanged.

Using this guide should allow you to play your favourite PS3 titles better than ever. If you face any performance issues make sure that the game is playable or not through the official game compatibility list. If you find your PCโ€™s performance to be below par and not as good as expected, try our windows 11 optimization guide for faster and smoother performance.
