RTX 4090 performance revealed โ€“ Itโ€™s an absolute monster card

After announcing the RTX 3090Ti Nvidia havenโ€™t really revealed anything fresh yet besides confirming the release date for the RTX 3090Ti which is ready to head to the market on March 29th,2022. Apparently, Nvidia will be using the new PCIe Gen 5 Ready 16-pin power connector. There have been leaks of some images about the Galax RTX 3090Ti using the new 16 pin connector which is of course to get everyone used to it for the ADA Lovelace Cards. Letโ€™s find out more and see why Nvidiaโ€™s 4000 series is going to be even faster than earlier expected. Read official specs for the RTX 4000 series here.

Reasons why the RTX 4000 series is going to be extremely fast

  • Higher performance targets for the RTX 4000
  • Better and stronger Ray Tracing
  • Potential usage of GDDR7 memory speeds
  • Higher power consumptions
RTX 4090 performance

Higher Performance targets for the RTX 4000

Initially, Nvidiaโ€™s plans were to match the power consumption (of the high-end card) to 400-450w with a 60-80% improvement in performance but recently the Lovelace series is set to be pushed even further than that and is expected to target the performance of the RNDA3 cards which is actually pretty insane. The RDNA 3 Raster cards use a multichip module design and Nvidia will be looking to match that with a single chip.

Better and stronger Ray Tracing for the RTX 4000

The RTX 4000 is set to optimize Ray Tracing further-more. Ray-Tracing is one of the in-trend technologies which hasnโ€™t really been standardised yet despite many games, GPUs and even consoles supporting it. Ray Tracing can really make some games look amazing, especially the ones with poor lightning quality like Minecraft and even after that many users prefer to keep Ray Tracing off due to the big FPS drops. Every gamer would choose a smoother experience over the visuals any day. However, things might actually change after the RTX 4000 cards as we are expecting a 25-50% improvement in Ray Tracing performance. The drops in the FPS should be much low making Ray Tracing much more worth it.

Potential usage of GDDR7 memory

Recently it was also revealed that Lovelace is being built to support GDDR7 memory speeds and maybe even GDDR7 itself which is going to be a blistering 32gbps. According to the sources, the GDDR7 will not be ready to be used during the initial launch of the RTX 4000 cards but Nvidia will still have access to the fastest chip in the market.

Higher power consumptions

A higher performance target also means that we can expect extremely high power consumption from the top-end cards, we are talking a 500-600w for the RTX 4090 which makes it more obvious why Nvidia is excited about moving to the next Gen PCIe connector.

The ADA Lovelace cards(RTX 4000) are set to be launched by the end of Q3,2022 which should be as soon as September and hopefully, by then the GPU shortages are sorted and buying a GPU gets easier. Apparently, the GPU market is slowly stabilizing as the prices continue to fall and are currently the lowest they have been for more than 6 months.
