The error occurs when there is more than 1 instance of the Unreal engine running in the background. With more than 1 editor open the Engine simply doesnโ€™t understand what to do and cannot save changes to your project in one instance while ignoring the other.

It is quite easy and can happen to anyone, one may end up clicking on the editor more than once and unknowingly you have 2 editors open.

In order to fix the โ€˜failed to save errorโ€™ navigate to the taskbar and check if you see two windows of Unreal Engine, shut one of them down and try to save the changes now. If you donโ€™t see another window of the editor open, try checking the task manager and see if you find it there. If you do end the task and that should solve the error for you and voila you can progress ahead with your project happy programming!
